Buying Guide

A few minutes of preparation saves you money and trouble when buying second-hand.

Finding the right item

  • Search, then filter. Use the price range, location radius and category filters. Results start close to you and widen gradually.
  • Save searches. Turn on an alert and we will tell you when a matching ad is posted. The best deals often go within hours.
  • Check the price label. "Fair deal" and similar labels compare the price with similar ads on BuySalex.
  • Can't find it? Post a Wanted ad and let sellers come to you.

Before you contact the seller

  • Read the whole description and look at every photo.
  • Open the seller's profile: how long have they been a member, are they verified, what do other buyers say?
  • Prepare your questions: age, reason for selling, bills and warranty, any repairs.

Making an offer

Use Make offer in chat to send a price. The seller can accept, decline or send a counter-offer. Be realistic: an offer far below the asking price is usually ignored.

Inspecting the item

  • Phones: check the IMEI on the box, the bill and in the settings match; make sure the phone is signed out of the previous owner's account; test calls, camera, charging, speakers, Wi-Fi and Face ID or fingerprint.
  • Laptops: check battery health, keyboard, ports, screen for dead pixels, and that Windows or macOS is activated.
  • Cars and bikes: check the RC, insurance, PUC and service history; match the chassis and engine numbers with the RC; look for signs of accident repair; take a test drive; consider a mechanic's inspection.
  • Furniture and appliances: check for damage, smell, pests, and that appliances work when plugged in.

Paying safely

Pay only after inspecting the item. Use buyer protection where available. For cash, meet somewhere public. For UPI, make sure the name shown matches the seller. Never pay a "token amount" in advance.

After the deal

Mark the deal as done in chat and leave an honest review. It helps the next buyer.
